Rural Enterprises

ETTI's newest rural livelihoods program is helping 300 Tibetan-area beekeepers build sustainable and lucrative honey enterprises through the adoption of new technologies and management techniques.

Developed in partnership with Yunnan Agricultural University's Bee Research Center, ETTI's Advance Beekeeping and Enterprise Development (ABED) Program helps Tibetan-area beekeepers increase production by up to four times while simultaneously reducing labor inputs.

ETTI is also working with local government to establish a bee protection zone. A bee protection zone will reduce future threats to beekeepers'  livelihoods by curtailing practices that threaten bees' natural habitat and, at the same time, raise public awareness of the importance of beekeeping for rural livelihoods in Eastern Tibet.
